I first got involved with Entrepreneurship in early December 2018. I did not know where to get started, what to do, or who to talk to, which is the case with most people that want to become entrepreneurs. But I did know that I loved Personal Development and that I wanted to help others. I came across a video on YouTube that changed my life. This was just a regular Self-Help video. But for some reason this one spoke to me much differently than the other ones that I have come across in the past. After watching the video, I began to watch much more videos like that one. One after another I started to become aware of how we are all in absolute control of our lives.
Learning all about the Law of Attraction, the subconscious mind, and paradigms completely changed my life. It was like I was operating in a dark room for my whole life and learning this information opened the blinds and revealed how beautiful it is outside. I went from hating reading and thinking there is no book in the world that could interest me to loving it and doing it for at least 30 minutes everyday. I went from being disappointed with my circumstances to being grateful for them.
The videos that I would watch would often emphasize the importance of taking action. I began my journey to help others (and myself) reach their full potential in January. I created an Instagram page where I was just reposting other peoples’ Entrepreneurship content and tag them. When I first began my journey, I was alone. None of my friends or family were on the personal development road that I was on. I started to use Instagram to share pictures and videos in the self-help niche. None of my friends or family were using Instagram the way I was using it. They used it as a source for entertainment, I was using it as a source of education and as a source to educate others.
So, my entire journey to where I am now started with a video on Instagram that was shared on a friend’s instagram page. The video was titled “3 TIPS TO SUCCESS”. The man in the video is named Austin Godsey. In the video, he described the three things he always kept in mind that made him successful. The three tips are: lie, cheat, and steal.
He said to lie to yourself every day and say that you are the best at your craft and that is what you will become. It is important to visualize where you want to go. Your imagination gives you the ability to put yourself where you want to be in life. If you want to be the best salesman your company, imagine it. Imagine the money you will make, the people you will interact with, the house you will live in, the car you will drive, and the clothes you wear. Just put yourself in those amazing circumstances. It is actually fun and feels good to do so.
He said to cheat yourself of the things that you want now. Cheat yourself of things like partying, drinking, playing video games, watching Netflix, drugs, aimlessly scrolling through social media, and other things that just waste your time. Don’t let those little things cheat you out of big opportunities in life. You have to be willing to sacrifice in order to succeed. There is no such thing as receiving something for nothing. When things take much longer to see the results, unsuccessful people tend not to do what they know needs to be done. Some of your biggest dreams will require you to work long nights and wake up early. In that case, sleep is the sacrifice you are willing to make. Other dreams may require you to spend less time with your friends and more time working on your dreams. The sacrifice there is your friends. You are willing to lose friends now for something much bigger later.
Sacrificing something good now for something of greater value later is delayed gratification. Society tries to deny the fact that they can not get the thing they want without giving up something in return. Like trying to lose weight without giving up their favorite foods and drinks or getting ripped without doing long workouts. The wealthy understand that delayed gratification is one of the major keys to success. One of the reasons most people are not achieving their goals is because they are not willing to make those sacrifices now for something greater, but unseen, later. Having faith is another important part of becoming successful. Delayed gratification demands your faith in the idea that the things that I am sacrificing now will without a doubt be worth it in the end.
And finally, he said to steal. Steal as much information from mentors as possible. I have watched and read a lot of personal development content and that is without a doubt one of the most common things I have heard. Mentors will get you to your goals much faster than it would be if you were to do it by yourself because they have been in your shoes. They have already made all of the mistakes that you would most likely go through if you didn’t find that mentor. They will give you the blueprint that they wished they had when they were at the point that you are at now. If you can’t find a mentor, then just ask for advice. There is someone out there that is much better than you at what you want to do. Reach out to them and ask for advice.
That Instagram video was my first mental breakthrough in realizing that there is so much more out there for me to experience in life. I think everyone has that one piece of advice, whether it be a video, book, or inspirational person out there that reaches your inner-self and completely changes your mindset in a way that nothing else could do before. That advice gets you to understand in a much deeper way than the usual advice that you receive. This is what motivates me the most to continue to produce content for you. I hope that one of the pieces of content that I post causes a complete shift in your mindset or at least increases your awareness on how you can live the life that you truly want to live like this one did me.
